Turf Nutrition Tool (TNT)

The Andersons has now made available a turf nutrition optimization tool to plan your annual plant health needs. Many turf managers are finding significant savings in their turf nutrition budgets using the TNT in combination with Andersons product technology. All you need to use this tool is a computer and Microsoft Excel 97 or higher versions.

1) The first step is to download the application from the menu below (right click icon, and "Save Target as..."):

2) Save the file to your computer, right click the Excel icon, and "Save Target as...", and then place in your desired computer folder.

See below video training on the TNT.

3) Open the file. Please note the file has macros, which will not harm your computer, but you may get a warning "File xxxx, contains macros, macros may contain viruses...", select, "enable macros".

Note: If you open this file without a warning, and the buttons will not work, click here for solution.

4) Once the file opens, simply select "Greens" or "Fairways" from the top of the calculator prior to starting. This will bring up the associated products for your application. If you plan to use the TNT for both Fairways and Greens, save two copies and select one as greens and the other as fairways.

5) When the main application window opens, you should see a screen like figure 2 (if your menu buttons do not work, click here for solutions)

6) If you have gotten this far, congratulations, you are ready to start using the TNT. It may be easiest at this point to watch the short video below.

If you are not into video training, a brief description of the tool follows:

7) Once you have selected the Greens or Fairways from the liste, select the climatic region from the map (drop down list)

8) Select your desired Nitrogen amount per week from the drop-down menu.

9) Input your total Acres (U.S.) or Hectares (versions outside U.S. and U.K.)

10) Now you can select a product in one of the application windows by selecting a product from the drop-drop menu (see figure 4) and then typing in the pounds (U.S. version) of product. Immediately below the application amount cell, will be the nitrogen amount, which is calculated. Also, you will note that the graph will now show nitrogen release (thin green line) and typical turf response (green bars) for your selected product and rate of application. Simply repeat this action until you have an annualized program with your desired total nutrition. (Note - the drop-down list may appear blank - simply slide the menu-bar up until the product list is visible)

Note also, when selecting colder climates on the TNT, the graph will display blue-shading which signifies colder times of the year when turf nutrition needs are minimal.

At the bottom of the TNT, you will see that total bags and cost of the product (U.S. only) will be displayed.

Please check this page often, as updates to these tools will include new features or new products added to the TNT. Also, we are very interested in comments or feedback on the TNT.

When complete, the TNT graph should look similar (depending on your desired nutrition program) to the graph below:
